MAT Program Requirements

* Content area (UG level) coursework (18 hours)

* MAT (graduate) teacher preparation coursework (30-33 hours)

* CUC Fingerprint Background Check.

* Pre-professional hours (100 hours)

* Pass the ILTS Content Exam for your content area (score of 240 or above).

* All requirements must be completed prior to student teaching 

Pre-Professional Hours

* 100 hours of pre-professional hours, tutoring, or assisting students with direction and guidance of a certified teacher.
* Hours must be submitted both in Blackboard for course credit as well as Tevera for OFE documentation.
* Most MAT courses will require an average of 10 hours in a school per course with a total of 100 hours in the program.
* Only 40 hours can be completed at one location.
* Each course will require pre-professional hours.
* Complete Self-Placement Forms to arrange visits at least two weeks prior for requested observations.

Q: Where do I send transcripts from completed content coursework:

A: Official transcripts must be sent to Grad.Admission@cuchicago.edu

Q: When do I need to apply for Teacher Candidacy?

A: Students should apply to Teacher Candidacy after they have completed 9 semester hours of MAT Coursework 12 hours of Content Coursework.

Content Coursework Requirements

* Grades of “C” or higher will fulfill content coursework requirements.

* Academic credit is granted in semester hours.  Course credit listed by other units (e.g. quarter, trimester, etc.) will be converted to equivalent CUC semester hours.

* Content coursework must be completed at an accredited institution of higher education and be documented on an official transcript.
