AI Guidance for CUC: CUC Student Guidance

CUC AI Student Policy

  • Faculty instructors set the policy for how, if, and when AI tools can be used in class.
  • If you do not know your professor's AI preference, ask them!
  • If you use AI after being directed NOT to use AI, this can lead to failing an assignment, failing the class, and/or having an academic honor code violation.

What students must know about AI:

  • Information provided by generative AI may be inaccurate, misleading, biased, and completely false (because not everything on the Internet is true, accurate, unbiased, etc.). Fact-check, proofread, and edit content to make it your own!
  • Generative AI does not create new knowledge. It only gives a “best guess” as to what answer you are looking for based on the prompts you feed it.
  • Citations can also be fabricated, so always check with Google Scholar or a CUC Librarian to verify if the resource exists.
  • Be transparent in your use of generative AI and cite as appropriate:
  • Use generative AI to supplement your learning, not to replace it. You are only cheating your future self if you do this.
  • Don't give your personal information to an AI bot. Just like anything else on the internet, data can be stolen, sold, and used against you!

Additional resources to learn about AI in higher education:

CUC students may consider using generative AI to:

  • Enhance your own work.
  • Shorten your own text.
  • Revise your own text for spelling and grammar.
  • Create study aids (e.g., flashcards) for quizzes or exams.
  • Test and practice your knowledge of course topics.
  • Conduct basic research on course and assignment topics.
  • Use it to help you create new ideas or expand upon existing ones.
  • Develop skills related to the usage of generative AI as it will add value to your workplace profile.
