Music: Concert Etiquette

Concert Etiquette 101

  • Arrive early. This will give you time to find your seat and look over the program notes before the concert begins. There is NO late seating, which means you'll have to listen to the first piece in the lobby.
  • Do not leave in the middle of a movement.
  • Sit back in your seat so that you don't block others' sightlines
  • Turn off/silence all electronic devices. Don't check your phone because the light from the screen will be distracting.
  • Applaud after each FULL piece has been performed. Some pieces have more than one movement. If you’re not sure, watch the conductor.
  • Stay for the entire performance.
  • Do not eat, drink, or smoke.
  • Don't talk, even in a whisper, or make any excessive noise. Don't unwrap any candy wrapped in cellophane during the music!
